On Track Tutoring Information and Policies
Teaching Approach
The tutorial relationship works best when the learn preferences of the student and goals of the parent or guardian match the teaching approach and style of the tutor.
My teaching approach is both structured and individualized, with flexibility built in for each student’s individual learning style. I try to teach primarily to learners’ strengths, while gradually addressing their weaknesses. It is crucial to know where my students are functioning and to what extent I can nudge them on new achievements.
My lessons and activities are individualized to the student’s grade level, abilities, interests and needs.
Tutoring Policies
To avoid confusion or misunderstandings involving matters of time and money, I outline my tutorial policies below. They are intended as general guidelines, rather than strict regulations. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
Tutorial Sessions
Sessions are generally from 1-4 hours and can range from one subject to several during that time, depending on the student’s needs. At least two sessions per week are recommended to ensure continuity of learning.
Client agrees to let Tutor know of cancellations or lateness by phone or text at least 24 hours prior to scheduled session, whenever possible.
Testing, Conferring, and Progress Reports
Unless an extensive evaluation has been conducted recently, I usually administer formal and informal tests during the first sessions to determine where to being instruction. There is no extra charge for the testing since it is accomplished during the regular tutoring session. Oral conferences can be scheduled free of charge, during the final 10 or 15 minutes of the child’s session – please request such meetings at least 2 days in advance. Written reports of the testing can be provided; however the hourly tutoring rate applies for the time to write up the report.
Tutoring Rates
Individual (one on one) tutoring is $25/hour, small group (at least 2, less than 6) tutoring is $15/hour.
